The American University of Blagoevgrad (AUBG) - Located about 100 kilometers south of Sofia in the town of Blagoevgrad. It was founded in 1991 as a cooperative venture of the University of Maine and the governments of Bulgaria and the U.S. The University of Maine extends its accreditation to the academic programs of the AUBG. The University teaches a four- year liberal-arts curriculum. Admission is competitive and based on highschool transcripts, SAT and TOEFL scores, a required essay and letters of recommendation.
